Match Report

This week in year 6 we have been looking at recount texts. Recount texts are often found in Newspapers about all the different events that are going on around the world. I often find myself going to the back of the newspaper so I can read all the football match reports, especially about my favourite team, Arsenal! I was lucky enough to have some spare time this weekend to go and watch them in action so thought I would have a go at writing a match report and see how many of the features of a recount text I could remember! Have a read!

Sunday 22nd September at the Emirates Stadium saw Arsenal overcome Stoke in a gruelling 3-1 display and sent Arsenal to the top of the Barclays Premier League. A crowd of over 60,000 saw Aaron Ramsey and the rest of the Arsenal team put on a hard working performance.

Before the game had started the home fans were all talking about the new record signing Mesut Ozil and it was clear everyone was very much looking forward to seeing the new German signing playing his first home game. As soon as the stadium announcer called out his name the fans applauded and cheered his name. Sadly there was also some bad news, Theo Walcott, Arsenal's midfielder, was injured and wouldn't be able to play. The Stoke fans were extremely happy about this as they knew he was as quick as a cheetah and without him their team would stand a much better chance of winning!

The game started extremely quickly and it was very clear from the start that the Arsenal players were playing with a lot more confidence, style and teamwork. It only took 5 minutes before the home team were one- nil up after Aaron Ramsey tapped home a rebound after the ball smashed against the post. The fans sung with delight as Aaron sprinted frantically towards them in celebration of another one of his goals (he has got 7 this season already!).

Arsenal contiued to move the ball quickly and the magic, marvellous Mathieu Flamini really showed the crowd that he is as brave as a lion and put in some bone-crunching tackles! However from out of nowhere Stoke were the next team to score which really shocked the crowd, the stadium was a graveyard and there was not a sound made as Arsenal tried to get back in front with another goal.

As time went by it was obvious that they were going to score and it didn't take long before another Arsenal goal went in. From a corner an Arsenal defender soared majestically into the sky and headed the ball. The ball trickled as slow as a snail into the goal and like a volcano, the crowd erupted!

After half time Arsenal continued to play like superstars and scored very early in the second half. From then on they kept the ball extremely well and held on to win the game 3-1. The man of the match was given to Mesut Ozil, who really showed the crowd that he could become a huge star with the team in the future.

After the game the Arsenal manger, Arsene Wenger was full of praise for Mesut Ozil saying that he had played really well and was impressed with his performance, "When you look at his numbers, the assists are not a coincidence, they are a reality of his game. He is a great player."

CAN YOU GIVE THIS PIECE A STAR AND A WISH? OR COULD YOU WRITE YOUR OWN MATCH REPORT OR RECOUNT THAT COULD BE FOUND IN A NEWSPAPER? MAKE SURE YOU PROOF READ YOUR WORK, I HAVN'T AND I THINK THERE MAY BE A FEW ERRORS! CAN YOU SPOT THEM?

David Moyes last night predicted Wayne Rooney will take tomorrow's Manchester derby
by storm and declared the old Trafford striker's flirtation with Chelsea officially over.
3-1 sent Man U to the top of the Barclays Premier League. They kept hold of that 3-1,
Rooney kept hold of the formular and what do you get ... THE WINNERS!!!
It was a great finish with the Man U winners.

  6. The adjectives, adverbs and phrases you have written are incredible and want the reader to want to read on = star
What you need to include is to place the speech into the correct places for example you don't need them in the last sentences.

  9. The blog is very interesting and tells you a lot of things about Arsenal such as Ozil playing his first home game. I think there could of been a better and bigger picture because the picture is too small but of cause it would of been better to write about Liverpool.

  11. A lot of you have spotted the incorrect spelling of haven't, well done! What type of apostrophe use is this, possessive or omission? Can anyone tell me the difference between the two and give an example in sentences? I really like your wishes so far. Try and give a wish then suggest an example of how you could improve the work. Mona did this really well by suggesting I use the word astonishing in my match report, I will try and do this next time around!

  12. star:A range of great sentence openers.
star:Interesting use of similes throughout the recount.
wish:Could have written about the Stoke players.
Haven't is an example of omission.
Omission:The apostrophe is used in place of a missing letter(s).
    e.g.could have is could've
Possessive:The apostrophe shows something is belonging to someone.
    e.g. Karishma's book

    1. I really like your definition Karishma and using an example really shows your understanding? What about if the book belonged to James? Would it be James's?

      Delete
    2. To show singular possession for a word ending in s use an apostrophe and another s. So you would write James's if the book belongs to him.
